Beginner Under 1 Hour

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Scissors, Sharp
  • Trim Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Marker
  • Painters Tape
  • Paper Clip, 1
  • Fleece, 15" H x 25" W

DIRECTIONS:

  1. For hat one size fits most. Cut one panel of fleece, 15"x 25". Fold in half to 15" (H of hat w/fringe) x 12 1/2" (W of hat with no sew braid in back). Place edge of tape 1 1/2" in from 15" side (opposite from folded side) and 3" in from one 12 1/2" side. Cut out corner of fleece where tape overlaps, 1 1/2"x 3" corner. Remove tape on sides of cutout.
  2. Mark dots on tape starting at corner cutout, every 1" on 15" side, every 3/4" on 12 1/2" side. Cut from edges of fleece toward marks just to edge of tape. Fold each 1" W tab in half toward tape line. Cut a small 3/8" slit in center of tab. Repeat for all 1" tabs. Remove tape.
  3. Insert one end of an opened paper clip through the slit in both layers of the bottom edge fringe strip. Slide the hook of the paper clip through the cut through the next fringe slit and pull the second fringe through the first. The hook of the paper clip should be hooked in the second fringe strip. Continue up through the top 1" tab. Pull one side of top fringe through the last 1" tab. Double knot fringe with opposite side fringe to hold the back of hat secure. Bundle the top fringe. Take the second pair of top fringe strips, next to the back weave, and wrap around the base of the top fringe. Double knot to secure.
  4. Double fold the bottom edge of the hat.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from WOW 45 years of sewing crafting etc and this is the first set of instructions that had me like WHAT???? I have made these before and it has been years so I seen the post on the site and thought hey let me do a quick review before I pull out my fleece and needless to say the fleece never came out of the bin.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from need more pictures at least of the back. No useful pictures or video. Do you really expect someone to make this from these lacking insite instructions. get with the program. better off just going to you tube for ideas than this place.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Wow Considering this is a Beginner level project, they really expect you to have a general understanding of what is going on in the making of this kind of beanie. Most of us are super green when it comes to this. So a video or even pictures would have been super helpful. I eventually go fed up and just used my sewing machine to create an seam and then tie up the fringe with some extra fabric I had from trimming it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Instructions are PATHETIC After reading the reviews I decided to closely look at the ‘instructions’. And I have to agree who put these instructions should be fired. I’ve been sewing since I was 8 (and I’m 68 now) so let’s just say I have wee bit of experience. Plus crochet and general crafting experience, so following instructions are not generally a problem. But I have to say Joann’s is doing a poor job of presenting projects that should be easy and should encourage customers to want to purchase materials and make these projects. Sad to see this.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sounds confusing I was excited wanting to make this and couldn’t figure it out at all. It needs photos or a video or even better directions

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Instructions Clarification Needed I have been a sewer (knitter, crafter, etc) for years, & these instructions are abysmal!! Add a video for clarification!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Make a video for these projects This isn’t cooking, this is an art projects that needs video. Who ever is in marketing there at Joanns’ needs to get it together and offer a better approach and instruction if you want people to get excited to do such projects & others like it. This is a lazy effort for this day and age to give mediocre instructions from a craft and sewing company, come on marketing at Joanns’ step up the game, make videos, better instructions, and photos of step by step, it’s your products you’re selling so why make such a mediocre effort?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for scrap fleece You may need a practice run to get the hang of it, pattern on my first attempt was sideways, lol. There are YouTube videos for "braided no-sews" to help you understand how to make the "seam". I will cut the top strips thinner next time, too.
