SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Variety of five different 1/2 yd sized fleece prints
  • 1 1/3 yds single print or solid for backing
  • Rotary cutter, ruler & mat
  • Fabric scissors
  • Curved quilter's safety pins

DIRECTIONS:

    Approximately 40"x 50"
  1. Cut each of the five fleece prints into four 15"x 15" squares (or if it needs to be a bit smaller due to the selvedge edge cut them 14 3/4"x 14 3/4").
  2. Cut 3" squares out of each of the corners.
  3. Cut 1" wide by 3" long strips on all sides of the squares. There will be 9 strips on each side.
  4. Arrange the squares in a diagonal pattern as pictured, checking to be sure all the designs, if they are directional, are facing the same direction. There will be 5 rows of 4 across.
  5. Starting with the top left corner of the quilt, tie the corner piece to the one on the right side of it by matching the strips and tying a square knot. Tie on the next square to the right and complete the row with the last square. Repeat with all 5 rows.
  6. Note: Tie the knots side by side so they are not pulled so tight together that the row bunches up.
  7. Match up the top row fringes with the next row and tie square knots across. Repeat for all 5 rows.
  8. Spread the patchwork top out and be sure the rows are not bunching up. There will be gaps between knots.
  9. Cut the backing fabric 45"x 55" and cut 3" squares out of the corners. Cut thirty-nine 1" strips on each short side and forty-nine 3" strips on the long sides.
  10. Lay the patchwork piece on top of the backing and tie the strips together matching one from the backing and one from the top. Where the patches come together there will be a gap, so skip the strip that falls where the gap is. See the picture with the strip is skipped.
  11. After all the knots are tied then go back and trim the ones sticking out.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Is There An Illustration? I'm inspired and would like to try making this Fleece Patchwork Quilt. The "instructions" appear to be "text only" and are a bit confusing. Was there supposed to be a diagram, illustration, or picture included?
