SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Knit Fabric
- Ruler
- Rotary cutter and cutting mat Scissors
DIRECTIONS:
- For 10x14 tote with fringe-
- Cut two pieces of knit fabric that measure 23" by 16".
- Align your two pieces so the patterned sides (right sides) are facing together. Make sure your pattern is going the right direction.
- Fold your two pieces so that the shorter side is cut in half. Your piece will measure 8" by 23" when folded.
- Pin your fabric according to the diagram. (Place pins at the hash marks)
- Cut your fabric, using the diagram as a guide, along the dotted lines. Between the two side pins on the side that is not the fold cut tabs for knotting. These should be an inch long and should be every half inch. Along the bottom edge will be the fringe, these pieces should also be a half-inch apart. The fringe pieces will measure 6" long. You'll lose one fringe piece in the right corner because of the overlap of the side ties. Make sure to cut the fold as well!
- After cutting the pieces remove the pins and unfold, keeping the right sides together.
- First you'll tie the side pieces. Knotting together the top piece from one side and the top from the other side and so on until the side is all knotted. Repeat this step on the other side.
- With both sides complete, flip your tote right side out. First tie the straps of the tote, making sure your knot is tight.
- Start to knot your fringe pieces. Make sure you're knotting the first piece of one side to the first piece of the other side so there is no leftover pieces or holes in the bottom of your tote.
- Fill with candy!
- For 12x16 tote with fringe-

- Follow the same instructions as above. Your knit fabric piece will measure 20"x18" instead and you'll tie your bottom fringe pieces while tote is still wrong sides out. The diagram for this version is included.
JOANN HACKS:
- Use weights or pins to hold your knit fabric while cutting.
- When knotting the fringe pieces, lay your tote flat on the table and knot each piece together. Then move the piece to the side. Kind of like you're making a friendship bracelet or a macrame project, it will keep you organized!
