  • Adult White Sweatshirt
  • 4yds White Gauze
  • 3yds White Tulle
  • Rit Taupe Dye
  • Scissors
  • Sewing Pins
  • White 3/8" Eyelets
  • 2 yards 3/8" White Elastic
  • Hot Glue Gun/Glue Gun Sticks
  • Children's Headband
  • Craft Knife

DIRECTIONS:
MUMMY SHIRTS:
  1. Die t-shirt and sweatshirt off-white, following directions on the dye bottle. Use a very small amount of dye (about 1/8 amount indicated on bottle.) Add more dye to reach desired shade.
  2. After shirts have dried, cut off wristbands and bottom band of sweatshirt.
  3. Tear gauze into 3" wide, 36" long strips. Clip the gauze with scissors to start the tear, then use your hands to finish tearing. Save about one yard of gauze to create a hood for the adult sweatshirt, if desired.
  4. Lay shirts flat. Lay gauze strips on top of shirts horizontally, top to bottom. Trim strips to the width of the sleeves and body of shirts. Apply gauze with hot glue. Use a craft stick to hold gauze in place as glue dries. Use a few small dots of glue a few inches apart along each gauze strip.

MUMMY SKIRT:
  1. Fold white tulle in half vertically.
  2. Next, fold in half horizontally.
  3. Apply eyelets according to packaging instructions or with a eyelets tool, every 3-4 inches along horizontal folded edge.
  4. Use a craft knife to cut a hole through the tulle covering the eyelet hole.
  5. Insert elastic band through eyelets.
  6. Cut first few layers of tulle skirt into strips, from bottom to top, stopping just short of the elastic band.
  7. Glue extra strips of gauze along waistband under tulle strips using hot glue.
  8. Wrap skirt around child's waist, gathering for fullness.
  9. Tie off elastic using knot or bow. Trim excess width or length with scissors.

MUMMY HEADBAND:
  1. Wrap headband in gauze strips, hot gluing loose ends.
  2. Cut several gauze strips into 8-9" lengths.
  3. Gather short strips and hold onto the center of headband.
  4. Wrap a long strip of gauze around the center of the shorter strips to create a bow.
  5. Tuck loose end of center strip back under itself to tie off.

JOANN HACKS:
  • Use a craft stick to push down gauze onto shirts or tulle to keep in place until dry and to avoid burning fingers.
