SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1 Clear glass frame with hinges
  • 1 Roll of clear flat string (kid camps lanyard string)
  • 4 1/4" unfinished wooden beads
  • 1 Sheet of patterned paper stock
  • 1 Sheet of foamie stick letters & numbers- small about 1/4" tall
  • 1 Bottle of golden yellow acrylic paint
  • Small paintbrush
  • 1 Wooden skewer
  • Scissors
  • Eraser
  • X-Acto® knife
  • Pencil
  • 1 Sheet of plain white paper

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Place the unfinished wooden beads on the skewer and paint them. Let them dry.
  2. Take the sheet of white paper and cut it to the size of the glass on the frame. This is going to be your template to layout the letters and numbers.
  3. Using your ruler, make horizontal guidelines where you want each row to be place. You will need 4 lines: month, week, 2 for days of the month.
  4. When making the layout, start in the center of each line and measure to the outside edges. Count the numbers or letters needed for each line and divide in half. That way you will know how many you need for each side of the centerline.
  5. Once you have made your template, insert it into the glass frame.
  6. Make sure it is not crooked.
  7. On the front of the frame, place the foam letters equally apart on each line.
  8. Once the letters are completely applied, you can string the beads onto the plastic flat string. Wrap the string around the frame and tie off tightly on the backside of the frame. Snip off the excess string on the backside.

JOANN HACKS:

  • When deciding on the spacing for the letters, work from the center out on the frame to get them evenly spaced. Use the X-Acto® knife to help you place the foam letters.
