DESCRIPTION +

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Outdoor fabric: 1 1/3 yards (assumes 44” fabric width)
  • Outdoor fabric for trim: 1/4 yard
  • 45” of 5” foam
  • Spray glue
  • Quilt batting
  • Matching thread
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Sewing machine

DIRECTIONS:

    Finished ottoman is 15”x 15”x 15”.
    Fabrics used in photo: Better Homes and Gardens® Ornament in navy and Better Homes and Gardens® Ornament in daffodil.
  1. Cut 5” foam into three 15”x15” squares.
  2. Spray glue foam squares together to make a 15”x15”x15”stack.
  3. For extra cushioning, wrap foam cube with batting. Hand stitch batting in place.
  4. For fabric cover, cut 6 pieces into 16”x16” squares (this includes ½” seam allowances).
  5. For flat trim, cut 4” strips of fabric, fold and press in half. Make 200 total inches of flat trim.
  6. Sew ottoman cover sides together by taking 2 fabric squares, right sides facing each other, with one 16” long piece of trim between the fabric squares. Sew together with ½” seam allowance.
  7. Repeat Step 6 three more times to finish the sides of ottoman cover.
  8. Add the top by pinning trim and the fifth fabric square to the four sides sewn together in Steps 6 and 7. Sew around with ½” seam allowance.
  9. To complete the bottom of the ottoman cover, pin trim to the last fabric square first. Pin and sew this square to one side of the ottoman cover. Insert foam cube. Finishing options: slip stitch the remaining 3 sides, or add zippers.
