DIRECTIONS:
NOTE: Snug fitting envelope style pillow cover has a 4" overlap and tapered corners.FABRIC CUT LIST:
- 18" Pillow:
- Cut 1 pc. 18" x 18" and 2 pc. 18" x 12".
- 24" Pillow:
- Cut 1 pc. 24" x 24" and 2 pc. 24" x 15".
- Hem one long side of each rectangle by turning over 1⁄2" twice and sewing 3⁄8" and 1⁄8" from folded edge.
- Layer rectangles on the square (top first, bottom second) with right sides together and matching raw edges.
- Hemmed edges will overlap at the center. For smoother corner seams, mark each side edge 5" from the corner and draw a 1⁄2" box in each corner. Draw a line from the inside corner of the box to each side mark, forming a tapered corner seam. Sew 3⁄8" away from tapered line and straight sides. Back stitch sides where rectangles overlap.
- Round each corner by trimming slightly. To prevent fraying, serge or zigzag around raw edges.
- Turn cover right side out and insert pillow form.
- Optional pom pom trim: Cut a length of pom pom trim and center along one side of square, right sides together and pom poms toward center. Remove any pom poms within 1⁄2"- 3⁄4" of each corner. Sew trim 1⁄8" from raw edge. Repeat for other edges.
- Layer hemmed rectangles over square and mark for tapered corner if desired.
- Sew in a 3⁄8" seam, keeping pom poms free. Trim and finish raw edges.
JOANN HACKS:
- Start sewing seam at bottom of pillow. At tapered corners, do not pivot as you sew 3⁄8" from the drawn line-sew off the edge! Turn square counter-clockwise, begin at the top edge and sew 3⁄8" from the drawn line on second side in the same manner. An "X" of stitching will form at corner pivot. Repeat around all four sides. Clover Wonder Clips work better than pins on outdoor canvas. If directional prints are used, cut and hem rectangles so the print is correctly oriented. Stuff pillow form into the top first, then squish to insert into the bottom flap.
