Beginner 3-5 Hours

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • White Canvas Shoes
  • Newspaper or similar
  • Tulip Fabric Paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Plastic Cups
  • Rit Dye
  • Dye Bucket
  • Optional: Painter's Tape
  • Optional: Gloves

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Remove the shoelaces from the shoe.
  2. For a watercolor-like effect, wet the white canvas shoes first. Otherwise, move right to taping off the rubber bottom and front of the shoe. You can skip taping off if you'd like the paint all over the shoe, or if you'd rather just wipe off any paint that lands on the rubber before it dries.
  3. Cover your work area with newspaper or something similar.
  4. Mix the Fabric Paint with a little of water in the plastic cup. Scoop the watery paint up with your paintbrush and tap it over top of the shoe. Repeat with all your colors and allow to dry.
  5. Use your Rit Dye to dye your shoelaces, following the Rit bottle instructions.

JOANN HACKS:

  • If you first spatter the paint on wet canvas, allow to dry and spatter again on dry canvas for two different types of spatter effect.
