SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Blank stocking
  • Fabric paint: green, red, white, peach, pink, black
  • Medium flat brush
  • Detail brush
  • Pencil
  • Iron-on applique (Santa Hat)
  • Iron
  • Scissors
  • Scrap cardboard or cardstock

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Place cardboard or cardstock inside the stocking.
  2. Sketch out the layout of your Santa Stocking, use the applique hat as a guide for placement and sizing of Santa on the base of the stocking. Add snowflakes around Santa and the name to the top cuff.
  3. Base paint the bottom of the stocking green, leaving the area where Santa will be white. Apply additional coats as needed. Let the paint dry between coats.
  4. Paint Santa in the middle of your stocking using peach for the flesh, white for the beard and adding black and pink details for the eyes and cheeks. Use the photo as a guide or create your own Santa. Allow to dry.
  5. Add white snowflakes and dots for snow around Santa on the green background.
  6. Add the name to the stocking in Red or another contrasting color. Allow to dry
  7. Once the additional coats are applied as needed and all the paint is dry remove the cardstock/cardboard from inside the stocking.
  8. Place the stocking onto an ironing board or iron safe surface. Apply the applique to the desired area following the packages instructions for your specific applique. Hang & enjoy.

Craft Hack Tips and Tricks:

  • Cutting cardstock or cardboard to fit inside the stocking helps the stocking keep its shape during the painting as well as prevents the paint from bleeding through onto the back fabric.
  • Do not oversaturate the paint or fabric or it will bleed.
  • Use light pencil lines so they are easy to erase.
