SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Chair
- 2 cans spray paint
- 1 1/2yds fabric
- 4yds cording
- 24" zipper (or zipper to fit)
- Seam ripper
- Matching thread
- Basic sewing supplies
- Sandpaper (optional)
- Painter's tape
DIRECTIONS:
PAINTED CHAIR
- Clean surfaces to be painted with soap and water. Allow to dry. Remove any chipping paint or finishes and smooth any rough spots with sandpaper. Use painter's tape and plastic to mask off any area you do not want painted.
- Follow manufacturer's directions and spray chair in a well-ventilated area.
- Allow to dry thoroughly and apply a second coat of paint.
CRAFT HACK TIPS & TRICKS:
- If spraying out of doors, be sure it is a calm day.
- Using a paint drop-cloth will protect area from overspray.
- If your chair has an open, rattan back (as shown in picture) use a circular motion when spaying.
- To avoid paint running, do not hold can too close to chair.
CHAIR CUSHION
- Carefully take cushion out of fabric cover.
- Use a seam ripper to carefully undo all of the seams.
- Press fabric pieces flat if needed.
- Use the cushion pieces as a pattern and lay them on top of fabric.
- Cut out pieces.
- Cut out bias strips for cording and sew together end to end.
- Using a zipper foot, sew the cording wrapped in the bias strips to the top and bottom piece of the cushion.
- Using either the zipper from the original cushion or a new zipper, sew it to the appropriate pieces.
- Sew the box side to the zipper panel.
- Sew the box side to the top and then the bottom cushion pieces.
- Clip corners and curves as needed.
- Turn right side out and insert original foam cushion.
CRAFT HACK TIPS & TRICKS:
- Take pictures of the inside and outside of cushion before taking it apart to help remember how to put it back together.
- If the original zipper can't be used, measure your cushion to buy the appropriate size.
