SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Jewelry Wire Pliers (2 pairs)
  • Pencil
  • Damp Rag/Paper Towel
  • Scrapbook Paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Hot Glue Gun/Glue Gun Sticks
  • Yarn

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Choose color scheme first.
  2. Sketch designs lightly on ornaments. Paint background colors first, then paint details on top. Sketch details on paint background layer if needed. Depending on paint coverage and color, more than one coat may be needed. Add scrapbook paper details as desired using glue and scissors.
  3. For photo frame ornaments, pop out back cover and trace shape onto scrapbook paper. Cut out shape and insert into photo frame.
  4. For Santa ornament, cut several pieces of yarn and attach with hot glue. Trim beard after glue dries.
  5. For dimensional ornaments, assemble first, marking visible faces lightly with pencil. Disassemble ornament and paint all visible faces. Reassemble when paint has dried.
  6. For hoop ornaments, cut 50-60 pieces of yarn about 4" long. Attach yarn to hoop using lark's head knots. (Fold yarn in half. Place folded loop behind wreath. Feed ends through folded loop, pull snuggly.) After attaching all yarn, trim fringe to desired length.
  7. To hang, cut flexible wire into 5"-6" lengths. Thread one end of wire through ornament hanger. Tie a double knot at the top of the wire loop, using pliers to pull knot tight. Trim excess ends. Use pliers to twist base of loop tightly around ornament hanger. Twist several times until loop faces parallel to ornament face for hanging.

JOANN HACKS:
  • Experiment with different brush types before painting ornaments. Find your favorite motif and practice several times. Notice how one brush can create very thin or very think marks depending on pressure. Rinse brushes several times during painting to keep point sharp. Remove excess water from brush tip to keep painted details sharp.
