Intermediate Weekend Project

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 2 rolls of painter's tape (1" or desired thickness)
  • Jute rug
  • X-Acto® knife
  • Pencil
  • Stencil brush
  • FolkArt® ONE Decor Paint: Arctic Teal, Iced Turquoise
  • Tape measure
  • Paper

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Tape out the desired design onto your rug. For the design shown a zig zag pattern was created with tape lines. Use a ruler and pencil to help mark spacing for an even design. The spacing between taped lines you can eyeball or use a piece of tape as a spacer.
  2. Continue until the whole design is laid out. At the points where tape meets use a blade to cut the tape to a point.
  3. Press along the edges of the tape to make sure all the edges are sealed tight.
  4. Use a stencil brush and apply small amounts of paint to the rug in a dabbing motion. Keep your brush perpendicular to your rug so you don't push paint under the tape edges.
  5. Continue painting in the design some of each color paint as shown.
  6. Once all the paint is dry, remove the tape to reveal the finished design.

CRAFT HACK TIPS & TRICKS:

  • Tape around the perimeter of the rug to keep the edges clean. If you want your design to wrap around the edge do not tape them but lay something down to protect your work surface.
  • Use a pencil to sketch out the design before taping it out to see how the design will fit onto your rug.
