SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Fall laser wood windchime
- Brushes (1 each) 3/4" & 3/8" flat wash, 3/0 liner
- Palette
- Paint 2 oz. Acrylic (1 each)
- Americana: burnt orange, cadmium orange, cranberry wine, coral shell, primary blue
- Folk Art: titanium white, yellow ochre, moon yellow, eggplant
- Sandpaper - 150 grit
- Paper - 8 1/2"x 11" (3-6)
- Pencil and white pencil
- Rubberband
DIRECTIONS:
- Remove stickers and use sandpaper to remove any excess adhesive.
- Bundle the chimes with a rubberband.
- Trace each leaf onto paper. Draw patterns onto leaf tracings. These will act as a guide for the line patterns on the wood leaves.
- Seal the wood and provide a base for more vibrant colors: Use the 3/4" flat wash brush to apply one light coat of white paint to both sides of each leaf. If the edges will remain dark, brush the paint onto the surface with strokes toward the edges of the wood.
- Determine the color range for each leaf. Use the 3/4" flat brush to layer colors onto the backs of the leaves, wet on wet. Let dry and apply the same color combinations onto the front of the leaves. A second coat of paint may be necessary. Let dry.
- Use a pencil or white pencil to lightly draw the patterns onto the leaves. In the palette, mix a small amount of water with the white paint. Test brush strokes on a piece of paper. Use the liner brush to paint the patterns. For smother lines, lay most of the bristle length down on to the surface and pull lifting at the end of each line.
- A clean eraser may be used to remove any unwanted pencil lines once all of the paint has dried.
