Item # 262112220P85
Beginner 3-5 Hours
SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
  • Cotton Fabric (about 2 yards for front fabric and 2 yards for back fabric)
  • Cutting Mat, Rotary Cutter, and Straightedge (or Scissors)
  • Measuring Tape
  • Iron
  • Sewing Machine
  • Matching Thread
  • Painter’s Tape

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Cut two 32 3/4” squares out of the front fabric.

  2. Cut four 32 2/3” x 20” rectangles out of the back fabric.

  3. Turn the back fabric rectangles face down and, on each rectangle, turn one side in an inch, press with iron, turn in again, press and pin. Sew each folded edge.

  4. Next, place two back rectangles on top of one front square, right sides together. Line up all outside edges. The back rectangles will overlap in the center. Pin outside edges, pin along center seam (so the seam doesn’t shift while sewing) and sew ⅜” in around entire perimeter of square. Clip points of fabric at each corner, optional, for a straighter corner point.

  5. Un-pin and turn rightside out.

  6. Pin down the back seam again to keep from shifting while sewing, and pin fabric about an inch in from the edge all the way around.

  7. The last step is to sew the 3” flange. Use the painter’s tape to mark a line on your sewing machine that is 3 inches from the needle. Use either the painter’s tape or straight pins to mark on the fabric 3 inches in on each corner.

  8. Align the edge of the sham with the painter’s tape line on the sewing machine and sew 3 inches in all the way around the sham, following the guide and your corner markers.

  9. Repeat to make second sham.
