DIRECTIONS:
To find the downloadable patterns click on the "GET PATTERNS" tab above.NOTE: You will use 6 bags for each snowflake.
Use the templates provided or create your own.
- Trace the pattern onto each of the six bags.
- Cut out the design using scissors or a blade.
- Do NOT cut through the centerline of the paper bag.
- Add 3-4 cups of water to the large bowl.
- Add a varied amount of dye, depending on how dark you would like the paper to be.
- Dip each of the cut paper bags into the dye, only holding them in the solution for 10-15 seconds at a time.
- Lay each bag out on some newspaper or a towel to dry.
- You can dip the bags again for additional dye patterns or a darker shade, allowing to dry completely between dips.
- Once bags are dyed and dry.
- Lay one bag on a flat surface, bottom facing down.
- Run a line of hot glue across the very bottom of the bag.
- Glue another bag, also bottom facing down on top of the first bag.
- Once glue is hardened, lift up the top bag and add a line of hot glue to the center line, from the bottom to the very top.
- Continue these steps with the other bags.
- Once all six have been glued to each other, gently open the bags.
- Glue the final two bags to each other to create a round snowflake.
JOANN HACKS:
- Cut the first bag and use that as your guide to cut the other bags.
- Let the bags dry completely between dips. The paper becomes brittle as it soaks up the water and dye.
- You can use a paintbrush to add additional dye detail to the paper snowflakes.
