Mark the center of the paper by folding in half, unfolding, and then folding in half again in the opposite direction.
Fold corners in the meet in the center, forming a smaller square. Use a bone folder to achieve sharp folds.
Flip square over and fold new corners in to meet in the center.
Embellishing:
Mark each of the 8 paper triangles facing up with a different number.
Open triangle flaps and write a wish or prediction for the new year under each number.
Flip the fortune teller over and decorate as desired.
To open fortune teller, fold in half inward towards the number. Pinch under the square flaps on the outside and push sides in towards the middle to pop the fortune teller open.
Envelope:
Cut and score envelope pattern by hand or using cutting machine. Cut envelope liner if desired.
Fold envelope along score lines. Glue bottom and side flaps together.
Glue liner into the envelope flap, lining up the creases of the flap fold.
