SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Cardstock (4 pieces per shade)
- Scissors
- X-Acto® blade
- Glue
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Pendant light cord base
DIRECTIONS:
- Use the template provided to trace out 1 top pentaagon, 1 top circle and 10 sides. Vary the paper designs for added interest or use all the same color.
- Cut out the pieces traced in step 1.
- Score & fold along the dotted lines indicated in the template pattern. Fold all the flaps in. (If there is a right and wrong side to your paper, place the paper right side down on your work surface and fold the flaps down into the wrong side).
- Place the pentagon top piece right side down on the work surface. Adding glue to the first tab of the top pentagon, attach the small side of the side piece without a flap to the top flap.
- Continue attaching the side pieces to the pentagon tabs all the way around. You will need 5 sides for this.
- Attach the side pieces to each other. To do this you will want to remove the tab from one side with scissors then glue in place. You do not want tabs on both sides you are attaching together.
- Remove the tabs from the long side of the remaining 5 side pieces with scissors or an X-Acto® blade.
- Apply glue to one of the tabs on the long side of the shade and attach one of the sides from step 7. Make sure to glue long sides together.
- Repeat gluing all 5 long sides together. To glue together at the sides, repeat step 6 with the new row, removing the extra tabs as needed.
- Cut a hole into the center of the top pentagon piece large enough for the pendant socket to fit through.
- Place the circle piece around the cord to the socket, place the bulb socket through the hole in the pentagon piece. Glue the circle piece in place to cover the hole and secure the socket inside the shade.
- Hang and enjoy.
JOANN HACKS:
- The heavier the paper the sturdier the shade will be.
- To score your paper, place the ruler along the line you want to score (indicated with the dotted line in the template) and gently run the back of the blade along the line. You do not want to cut through the paper, this is just creating a slight indentation to help guide the fold.
