SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
DIRECTIONS:
SHIRT 1: WATERCOLOR LOOK WITH FLECKS OF COLOR
SHIRT 2: HORIZONTAL VERTICAL STRIPES
SHIRT 3: SWIRLED DYE SHIRT
JOANN HACKS:
- 3 T-shirts
- Tie dye kit
- Work surface covered with a trash bag
- Cooling cookie rack
- 13"x 9" glass baking dish
- Ice cubes
- Scissors
DIRECTIONS:
SHIRT 1: WATERCOLOR LOOK WITH FLECKS OF COLOR
- Wet the T-shirt and then scrunch it place on top of the cooling rack that is on top of the baking dish. place ice cubes on top of the scrunched T-shirt and then, using your scissors, snip the corner of the dry dye packets. Randomly sprinkle the dye on top of the ice cubes.
- Let it sit for about 5 hours.
- Rinse the shirt under cold water.
- Lay it flat on the plastic bag working surface.
- Mix up the dyes that are in the bottles with very hot water. Shake well.
- Randomly and sparingly squirt colors on the wet T-shirt to bleed into one another to give it a watercolor feel.
- Let it sit for 4 hours and then rinse with cold water.
SHIRT 2: HORIZONTAL VERTICAL STRIPES
- Wet the T-shirt and gather it in an accordion fold across the shirt vertically on the plastic bag work surface.
- Using the different dyes colors squirt stripes about 3" wide across the shirt.
- Let it sit for 5 hours.
SHIRT 3: SWIRLED DYE SHIRT
- Wet the T-shirt and lay it flat on the plastic bag working surface.
- Take the shirt in the middle on the front of the shirt and twist it clockwise.
- Keep spinning it until the entire shirt has been swirled into a circle.
- Take rubber bands and place them across the swirled T-shirt.
- Do this all around the T-shirt, like a pie.
- Squirt the dye into the circle and then flip it over and put dye on the back side of the swirled shirt.
- Flip it back over and let it sit for 4-5 hours and then rinse with cold water.
JOANN HACKS:
- The longer the T-shirts soak the brighter the colors will be.
