SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Sewing machine
  • Sewing notions
  • Iron
  • Rotary cutter & cutting board
  • Quilters Rule, 2'
  • Marking pen or tailors chalk
  • Batting, Warm & Natural, Needled Cotton, 45"x 60"
  • Fabric, see cut list in directions
  • Optional: fabric glue, fabric clips

DIRECTIONS:

Finish Size: 17"x 48". Use 1/2" SA.

Cut List:

  • Center front, ten @ 2 1/2"x 47", prints & solids
  • Borders, four @ 2"x 50", four @ 2"x 19", solid
  • Center back, one @ 16"x 47"
  • Cut batting: one @ 18"x 49"

  1. Cut all pieces listed above.
  2. RST sew strips on length 1/2" SA. Press seams open after each addition. RST center long border on length of center front. Sew 1/2" from end to 1/2" from opposite end. Open seam and press. Repeat for other long side and short ends. RST fold panel at one corner matching one short border with adjacent long border. Mark an angle on border that continues the line of the fold of the center front. Sew on the line. Open panel out. This should create a mitered corner. Trim off excess fabric by seam. Press seam open. Repeat.
  3. Repeat process of front panel for back panel.
  4. Layer batting, front panel RS up and back panel WS up. Match corners. Sew 1/2" from edges leaving 4" opening on one end. Trim edges close to stitching except at opening. Clip corners. Turn RSO. Fold opening edges in to match seams. Press. Hand stitch opening closed.
  5. Pin along seams of borders and every other stripe seam. Stitch in the ditch.

JOANN HACKS:

Front strips may need to be pieced to 48" length. Add 1/2" for SA sew RST.
  • Opening on runner may be closed with fabric glue. Add a small bead of glue inside folded edge and press. Hold in place with fabric clips until glue has set.
