SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- 1/4yd satin, for base fabric
- 1/4yd lace, for overlay
- 1/4yd tulle
- Scrap paperboard (ex: cereal box) or card stock
- Flower
- Hot glue gun
- General sewing supplies
DIRECTIONS:
- Cut a 3-4" diameter circle and a 12-13" by 1-1.5" rectangle out of the paperboard or card stock.
- Test fit the rectangle around the circle, a little longer is better than too short
- Cut 1 circle of satin approximately 1" larger than the paperboard circle
- Cut 1 rectangle of satin approximately 2-3" wide and 1" longer than paperboard
- Wrap the satin around the paperboard and glue with glue gun, making sure to check that it is smooth
- Cut 1 circle of lace approximately 1" larger than the paperboard circle
- Cut 1 rectangle of lace approximately 2-3" wide and 1" longer than paperboard
- Wrap the lace around the satin covered paperboard and glue with glue gun, making sure to check that it is smooth
- Fold short edge of fabric on rectangle and glue to to create a finished look along one edge
- Glue rectangle to circle, lining up edges
- At the end, trim unfinished edge if needed and glue under finished edge
- Cut a 24x 20" rectangle out of tulle
- Fold in half lengthwise and cut a half circle from one corner to the other
- Baste along curved edge, pull thread to gather and stitch edges together
- Trim flower to create a flat edge along bottom of flower and glue a small square of satin over stem so petals don’t slide off
- Arrange gathered tulle and flowers on top of pill box hat, glue
JOANN HACKS:
- To make a larger pillbox, just cut a larger circle and longer rectangle
- Pick satin and lace that has some stretch to it, this makes it easier to get a smooth layer when covering the paperboard
- To add more volume with tulle, cut the rectangle longer or wider and follow directions
