SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- 3 1/2yds each of two cotton fabrics
- 3yds 3/4" wide non-adhesive hook & loop tape
- Sewing machine
- Iron/ironing surface
- 5 standard-sized pillows
DIRECTIONS:
- Cut five 22"x 30" rectangles out of each fabric, for a total of 10 rectangles.
- Cut five 21" lengths of the hook & loop tape.
- Fold one side of each rectangle 1/4" to the WS and press with your iron.
- Divide the hook and loop tape and place the hook side with each of one of your five cotton rectangles, and the loop side with each of one of your other five cotton rectangles.
- Center the hook or loop tape onto the right side of the folded edge of the rectangle and sew in place along the edges of the tape.
- Fold the hook or loop tape in again towards the WS, press with the iron and sew in place.
- Assemble the hook or loop tape onto the edges of all ten fabric rectangles the same way; double-checking the measurements for each piece of fabric along the way, making sure that the lengths are staying consistent so that they all match up evenly when sewn together.
- Once all the hook and loop tape has been sewn onto an edge of each fabric piece, assemble the five pillowcases.
- Take one fabric rectangle with a hook tape, and one fabric rectangle with a loop tape, and place right sides together and pin. Sew around the edges with a 1/2" seam allowance, keeping the hook and loop edge open.
- Repeat for all five pillowcases.
- Cut off the excess fabric at the corners of the pillowcases, being careful not to cut through the stitching, and turn the pillowcases RS out.
- Line up the pillowcases along their long edges, overlap 1/4" and stitch together.
- Insert pillows.
Craft Hack Tips and Tricks:
- If you are using a fabric with a directional print, the best way to keep your print direction and hook & loop closure consistent is to sew the hook or loop tape onto the first printed fabric, and keep it in front of you for reference.
