Pink Linen Tote Bag

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1 3/4 yds Linen Fabric
  • Basic Sewing Supplies

DIRECTIONS:

Instructions are for a 15"x 17" bag.
Use 1/2" seam allowances unless noted.
  1. Cut 4 pieces of fabric 18"x 23" for tote front, back and lining.
  2. Cut 2 pieces of fabric 4"x 21" for handles.
  3. Cut out a 2 1/2" square from the bottom corners of the tote and lining.
  4. With right sides together, sew sides and bottom together (do not sew corners that have been cut out).
  5. Press seams open.
  6. Fold bottom corners together, matching side and bottom seams and stitch.
  7. Repeat with lining, leaving an opening in the bottom of the bag to turn.
  8. For handles, fold 4"x 21" piece in half wrong sides together and press.
  9. Open and fold edges to center and press to 1"x 21".
  10. Topstitch along both long edges.
  11. Find center of the top of the outer tote piece and mark 3" from center on each side.
  12. Baste handles over the marks, with handles laying down being careful not to twist the handle.
  13. Turn outer tote piece right side out and place inside the lining of the tote, right sides together.
  14. Sew top of tote to top of lining.
  15. Turn right side out and press.
  16. Topstitch along upper edge of tote.
  17. Slip stitch opening of the lining closed.

  • Choose a coordinating fabric for the lining.
  • Choose webbing trim or coordinating fabric for the straps.
