- 1 3/4 yds Linen Fabric
- Basic Sewing Supplies
DIRECTIONS:
Instructions are for a 15"x 17" bag.Use 1/2" seam allowances unless noted.
- Cut 4 pieces of fabric 18"x 23" for tote front, back and lining.
- Cut 2 pieces of fabric 4"x 21" for handles.
- Cut out a 2 1/2" square from the bottom corners of the tote and lining.
- With right sides together, sew sides and bottom together (do not sew corners that have been cut out).
- Press seams open.
- Fold bottom corners together, matching side and bottom seams and stitch.
- Repeat with lining, leaving an opening in the bottom of the bag to turn.
- For handles, fold 4"x 21" piece in half wrong sides together and press.
- Open and fold edges to center and press to 1"x 21".
- Topstitch along both long edges.
- Find center of the top of the outer tote piece and mark 3" from center on each side.
- Baste handles over the marks, with handles laying down being careful not to twist the handle.
- Turn outer tote piece right side out and place inside the lining of the tote, right sides together.
- Sew top of tote to top of lining.
- Turn right side out and press.
- Topstitch along upper edge of tote.
- Slip stitch opening of the lining closed.
