SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
DIRECTIONS:
JOANN HACKS:
- 1 bag raffia fibers
- 4 5" metal rings, Gold
- 4 GH fern leaf picks, Silver
- Wire cutters
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Scissors
DIRECTIONS:
- Separate one string of raffia from the bunch. Use a dab of hot glue on the ring to secure one end of raffia string to the ring. Begin to wrap the raffia around the 5" ring. Be sure that the beginning is tight and secured well to the ring. Use small dabs of glue frequently at the beginning to secure. Continue to tightly wrap the raffia around the ring, occasionally adding dabs of hot glue to attach and secure the raffia to the ring.
- One or two strands of raffia should cover the entire ring. When one strand runs out, simply add a second strand by following the previous steps to begin a new strand. Be sure to wrap tightly around the ring so that no gold shows through.
- After the ring is wrapped with the raffia, trim any raffia strands that won’t stay glued by trimming with scissors.
- Separate the leaf picks into individual stems and smaller pieces.
- Lay out the leaves and ferns on top of the ring to get a general idea of the design. Once you like the design, begin gluing the back of the leaves onto the ring, building on top of the base leaf to add dimension and design.
- Continue this process for all the rings making different designs on each ring.
JOANN HACKS:
- Do not use dry raffia. The raffia needs to be able to twist and move without breaking apart.
- Once the hot glue has dried, be sure to check each greenery, berry or fern piece to be sure it was glued securely.
