SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Sewing machine
  • Sewing notions
  • Iron
  • Rotary cutter & cutting board
  • Marking pen
  • Quilters rule, 2'
  • Arial bold letter
  • Opaque projector
  • Paper for pattern
  • Poly-fil®, Ultra Plush fiber fill, 40 oz bag, 1/2 each for 16" letter
  • Fabric, cotton print, approx 1 yard each for 16" letter
  • Optional: Glue stick

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Print desired letter in Arial Bold or similar typeface.
  2. Enlarge letter 1" larger than finished pillow height. 16" H cut 17" H.
  3. Front and back: cut one each.
  4. Sides: for finished 16" letter height, cut 5" wide strip 1" longer than the length of all sides added together (cut lengths of sides). Press short ends under 1/2". RST attach side strip to front, 1/2" from matched raw edges. Start at bottom corner. Clip at corners to turn side strip. The two short, folded ends will create the opening to turn the letter.
  5. RST attach back to sides same as front.
  6. Clip all corners close to the seam to reduce bulk.
  7. Turn RSO, push out all corners and fill.
  8. Hand stitch opening closed.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Use a glue stick to temporarily hold edges together prior to stitching.
  • Fill the areas of letters furthest from the opening first.
