Pocket Stockings

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1/2yd Cotton Fabric (for Stocking)
  • 1/4yd Contrasting Cotton Fabric (for Trim and Pocket)
  • 1/2yd Cotton Polyester Batting
  • Basic Sewing Supplies

DIRECTIONS:

Cutting Fabric Pieces:


  1. Cut 2 stocking pattern pieces from cotton fabric and 2 from cotton polyester batting.
  2. Cut one 8" x 6" rectangle for the pocket out of contrasting fabric.

Making the Stocking:



NOTE: Use 1/4" seam allowance unless otherwise noted.
  1. Turn under 1/4" on top edge of pocket and then fold down 3/4" to right side and stitch the sides to create top of pocket, turn right side out and press, stitch.
  2. Fold in other 3 sides 1/4" and press.
  3. Pin pocket 4" from top and 1 1/2" from sides of stocking and stitch close to edges leaving the top open for the pocket.
  4. Place batting on wrong side of stocking and place right sides of stocking together, pin and sew 1/4" around the edges of the stocking, leaving top open.
  5. Clip curved edges and trim if necessary, turn right side out and press.
  6. Cut one piece of contrasting fabric 2" x 10" for tab.
  7. With right sides together, stitch along long edge to create a tube, turn right side out and press
  8. Fold in ends and press.
  9. Cut one piece of contrasting fabric 3" x 17" for top trim.
  10. Fold under one short edge and one long edge 1/4" and press.
  11. Pin the unfolded edge 1/2" from top edge with right sides together starting at the seam where the tab will be connected.
  12. Stitch 1/4" from edge of trim around the stocking, connecting the trim all the way around, press up to make a clean finish.
  13. Fold the trim in half to the inside of the stocking, pin and stitch around the bottom of the trim making sure you catch it on the inside.
  14. Fold tab in half and stitch to the inside of the stocking to hang.
