Haunted House Table Cloth
SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
  • Halloween POP! Fabric
  • Haunted House Table Cloth Window & Shutter Template
  • Disappearing Ink Pen
  • 1" and 3/4" Bias Tape Makers
  • 3/4" Hook & Loop Tape
  • Medium Weight Fusible Interfacing
  • Fusible Hem Tape (optional)
  • 1/4" Craft Foam for fabric boards (optional)
  • Basic Sewing Supplies

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Measure your tabletop and cut a roof that is 1" longer in length and 1" longer in width.
  2. Measure your table sides and cut walls that are 3" longer in length and 1" longer in width.
  3. Measure your table front and back and cut a house front and back that are 3" longer in length and 1" longer in width.
  4. Lay out your house front and use the windows and shutter template to determine placement of your windows and door as well as the size of the door. You need 3" in between the above-door window and the top of the doorway to accommodate the rolled-up door.
  5. Mark the windows, the door and the shutters with your disappearing ink pen,. Cut out the windows and door.
  6. Pin and sew each wall to the roof with right sides together. Then, pin and sew the wall corners together, with right sides together. Cut off the extra fabric in the corners.
  7. Use a 1" bias tape maker to make the bias tape for trim around all the windows and doors. Use a 3/4" bias tape maker to make the bias tape for the window grille pieces (the inner lines of the window.)
  8. Attach bias tape around all the raw edges of your doors and windows Reference the window templates and measure the length of bias tape you’ll need for each part of the grille; add an inch in order to fold the short edges in 1/2". Either sew the bias tape closed or use fusible hem tape. Then pin each grille piece on the inside of the window. Sew each grille piece in place with an X.
  9. Measure your door size and add 1" to the length and width; cut two pieces of door out of your fabric and sew right sides together, leaving one short side open. _x000B_Create the loops to hold the door up: Cut two rectangles out of fabric that are 2 1/2"x 10", and cut two rectangles out of interfacing that are 2 1/2"x 10". Fuse the interfacing to the wrong side of the fabric following the manufacturer’s instructions, then fold them in half lengthwise, right sides together, and sew down the long side. Insert a safety pin in one short side to help you pull the loop right side out.
  10. Tuck one short end in about 1/4" and place at the bottom end of the top window, pin and sew into place. Repeat for the other loop. Place the top of the door under the loops, pin and sew into place. Roll up the door and measure from the bottom of the door roll to the top of the window - use measurement to cut two pieces of hook and loop tape. Fold in the end of the loop, folding the short end in to create a clean edge, pin and sew into place. Then pin on one side of the hook and loop tape to the fabric loop and sew. Pin the other side other side of the hook and loop tape under the door roll, and sew into place. Repeat for the other side.
  11. Use the shutter template to cut four window shutters on folded fabric (for eight shutter pieces total). Do the same thing on the interfacing for eight total interfacing shutter pieces. Attach the interfacing to the wrong side of the fabric shutters following the manufacturer’s instructions. Pin shutters right sides together and sew leaving the long, straight side open. Clip the excess fabric off the corners and cut little triangles every 1/4" in the seam allowance on the rounded edge. Turn shutters right side out. Fold the open edge in, iron to crease. Pin and sew long edges of the shutters to either side of both windows.
  12. Sew the shutters in place on either side of the window, or to allow them to open and shut:
  13. Pin and sew one side of hook and loop tape to the inside of the window. Cut triangles of the opposite hook and loop tape and pin and sew to the top and bottom of each window edge.
  14. Attach one side of hook and loop tape in a strip on the outside edge of the other side of the shutter, and the opposite hook and loop tape in a strip to the house.
  15. Repeat for other window.
  16. Hem the bottom of the table cloth house, either by folding it in 1/2", ironing, pinning, and sewing; or by using a fusible hem tape and ironing into place following the manufacturer’s instructions.
  17. Optional: Create fabric boards to go over the windows by cutting 6"x 24" pieces of 1/4" craft foam, and two 6"x 24" pieces of fabric per foam piece. Baste on one fabric piece onto the foam with right side up, then place the second piece of fabric on top of the basted fabric, right sides together, and sew all the way around leaving one short side open. Trim corners of foam off, and trim up the foam in the seam allowance to about 1/4", if needed, and turn right side out. Sew the opening closed. Attach a square of hook and loop tape to the top corner of either side of the fabric board, and place the opposite hook and loop square onto the house, so that the fabric board is diagonal over either the door or the window. Repeat for as many boards as you would like.
