SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Distressed Jeans
- 3 1/2"x 3 1/2" squares of solid cotton fabric: red, orange, yellow, green & purple
- Pellon Wonder-Under Interfacing
- Cotton print fabric
- Sequin fabric
- Rainbow trim
- Quick Bond Fabric Glue
- Basic sewing supplies
DIRECTIONS:
- Adhere Wonder-Under to each square of cotton solid fabric following the manufacturer’s instructions and allow to cool. On the paper side, trace PRIDE letters onto corresponding cotton solid fabric. Cut out letters, arrange onto jeans and adhere to jeans following the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Turn jeans inside out and affix strips of Wonder-Under around any holes in the jeans. Cut sequin fabric a little longer than the affixed Wonder-Under and attach sequin fabric to the Wonder-Under. Once secure, trim off any excess sequin fabric.
- To attach cotton print fabric onto pockets, place a piece of paper and over the pocket and trace the shape of the pocket using the side of a pencil. You can achieve a fairly exact tracing of the pocket using the side of the pencil to make a rubbing of the seam. Cut out the paper pocket shape, then cut your fabric a little larger than the pocket. Attach Wonder-Under to the fabric following the manufacturer’s instructions. Once cool, trace pocket shape onto the paper side of the fabric, cut out, and attach onto the pocket following the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Affix webbing over the side seams of the jeans by first cutting the webbing 1" longer than the full length of the sides, then folding each raw edge in 1/2" and sewing with sewing machine. Attach the webbing over the side seam using Quick Bond Fabric Glue, holding it in place to dry completely with straight pins.
- Use additional sequin fabric to create a confetti effect by cutting the sequin fabric scraps and using the Quick Bond Fabric Glue to the sequins where they land.
JOANN HACKS:
- If the sequin fabric is not large enough to cover the entire hole, overlap strips of sequin fabric and close gap by handsewing, using fabric glue or even affixing a narrow strip of Wonder-Under in the overlap.
- Attach cotton fabric under belt loops by first unstitching the end of the belt loop, pinning it out of the way and then reattaching the belt loop end over top the adhered cotton fabric.

Great use for old jeans to make Pride Month an A+!
I found this project and got it done just in time for our Pride Parade. I didn't follow directions exactly but there is lots of room to improvise. Everything I needed was at Joann and the clerks were the best. Remember when you spell out the word PRIDE make sure to do it in reverse so it will spell correctly. Obviously I didn't but I gave myself a second chance. LOL I couldn't find the sequin fabric, but Joann has lots of really cool rainbow colored fabrics, so it wasn't difficult at all to make things work out. To glue down the webbing on the side seams I used E6000 +, which is crystal clear. Be careful because a little bit goes a long way. Make sure you know where you plan to put it before you get ready to put it down because once its touched the denim you're pretty much committed to that placement. Wonder Under works like a charm and can be reused if patches start to separate from the denim. This was a fun project that I involved my mom in to start and the help of an invaluable quiltmaker to help me figure out ways to finish without having to sew on every letter or patch. This is a lot of fun to create, and as my quilting friend said, "if nothing else, it's a great conversation starter!"
