DIRECTIONS:

CROWN

  1. Take the cardboard and measure around the child's head.
  2. Make a pencil line on the cardboard for the length.
  3. Find the middle of that line and draw a vertical line.
  4. This is where the center of the crown will be. Go up from the bottom about 4' 5".
  5. Make a mark. This will be the top of the crown.
  6. On both sides of that mark draw sweeping curves down and back upward to make the additional points for the crown where you will be placing the gemstones.
  7. You will make 3 on each side of the highest center point.
  8. Make the additional points step down in height by 1" from the previous point.
  9. As you get toward the back of the crown you will go do to the bottom 1"before the bottom edge. This should be straight on both sides for about 3".
  10. Cut this form out and again measure to your child's head. Make any adjustments as need for the diameter, allowing for a 1-3" piece of the elastic for the back. Glue the elastic piece at the center back of the crown. Let it dry before using.
  11. Smear fabric glue on the front of the crown and apply the pink sequin fabric. Let it dry.
  12. Place a bead of glue along the top edge of the crown and apply the white cording.
  13. Trim it at the back of the crown.
  14. Apply the plastic gemstones to the points of the crown and let them dry.

WAND

  1. Cut out two 4" stars with insides together of two pieces of the pink velvet fabric.
  2. Take one star and on the inside edge glue the iridescent fabric gathering it as you go around the star.
  3. Hot glue the two stars together right side out except for the bottom center.
  4. Stuff the star with the poly-fil.
  5. Insert the dowel rod and glue in place.
  6. Use the 3-D pink sparkly paint to trim the raw edges.
  7. Cut streamers with the ribbon and tie at the base of the star.

JOANN HACKS:

  • For a more finished look to the star wand, you can sew the two stars together instead of gluing them and omit the sparkly 3-D paint on top.
