SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
  • 2yds sage green fleece
  • 1yd dark green felt
  • 1yd of medium green felt
  • 1yd of yellow green felt
  • Cricut machine
  • Fabric mat
  • Rotary cutter
  • Cutting mat
  • Long metal ruler
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Fabri Tac glue
  • Scissors

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Fold your fleece in half from top to bottom and then measure your child to make the base poncho. Allow the fleece to go 12" wider than the child on each side. Cut the fringe on the bottom to be about 4" long. Find the center at the top and cut a shallow curve at the back for the base of the neck. Cut a "V" for the front in the top center of the fleece. Make the hole smaller than the child's head because the fabric will stretch. Cut out 16, 1/2" strips of the medium green felt. Place the strips first to go up the front and over the back. Once you have them where you want, hot glue them in place. Cut out horizontal strips to be 1/4" wide. Glue these in place. Download the patterns into Design Space and cut out the interior pieces of the design. You will need 5 circles above and below each design panel. Glue these design pieces in place with the Fabri-Tac glue.
  2. For the hood, measure your child's head and add 4 more inches for height and width. Fold a piece of the base fleece in half. Cut out a generous-sized folded square. Open it up, and on the front edge side glue a 4" wide strip of felt 2" onto the base fleece and the length of the opened hood. You will then fold this over towards you to give a finished look to the edge of the hood and glue it to the underside.
  3. Now glue the back seam together on the inside. Fold it back right side out and tuck the base inside of the neck opening. Glue the front edge in under the bottom of the "V". Glue the middle of the base of the hood to the inside of the back middle of the neckline. Between the front "V" and the back middle, gather the edge to ease the rest of the fabric to fit.

JOANN HACKS:
  • Hot glue adheres well to fabric, so you don't need a lot!
