SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- 1/2 yd Halloween Cotton for Placemat Front and Back
- 1/4 yd Contrast for Stem, Eyes, Nose and Mouth (or 10" x 14" remnant or Fat Quarter)
- 20" x 14" Cotton Batting
- 1/4 yd Heat and Bond for Eyes, Nose and Mouth (or 10" x 14" remnant)
- Disappearing Fabric Marker
- Matching Threads
- Basic Sewing Supplies
DIRECTIONS:
To find the downloadable patterns click on the "GET PATTERNS" tab above.- Add 1/2" seam allowance to placemat and stem.
- Cut out 2 pieces of fabric for placemat front and back and 1 piece of batting. (be sure to add 1/2" seam allowance all around)
- Cut out 2 pieces of contrast fabric for stem and 1 piece of batting. (be sure to add 1/2" seam allowance all around)
- Baste/pin batting to WS of stem.
- With RST stitch front to back, leaving the bottom for turning.
- Trim batting close to stitching and clip corners and curves.
- Turn RS out, press.
- Baste/pin batting to WS of placemat front.
- Baste/pin stem to the top, center of placemat front.
- With RST stitch front to back, leaving an opening in the bottom for turning.
- Trim batting close to stitching and clip curves.
- Turn RS out, press and slip stitch opening closed.
- Use a disappearing marker to draw pumpkin "lines" on the front, stitch over drawn lines.
- On WS (paper side) of Heat and Bond, draw eyes, nose and mouth - use pattern as a guide or make your own Jack-O-Lantern face.
- Follow manufacturer's directions and fuse to WS of contrast fabric.
- Cut out face and fuse in place to front of placemat.
- Use preferred method to applique face to placemat.
JOANN HACKS:
- If hand appliqueing, be sure to add 1/4" seam allowance.
