DIRECTIONS:
To find the downloadable patterns click on the "GET PATTERNS" tab above.NOTE: All seams are sewn using 1/4" seam allowances.
- To create patchwork front, cut (4) 2 1/2" squares from Fabric A, (6) from Fabric B, (4) from Fabric C, (4) from Fabric D, (2) from Fabric E, (2) from Fabric F, and (2) from Fabric G.
- Cut all 2 1/2" squares in half to create right triangles.
- Create half-square triangle blocks by sewing (4) Fabric A triangles to (4) Fabric C triangles, (4) Fabric A triangles to (4) Fabric B triangles, (4) Fabric C triangles to (4) Fabric B triangles, (4) Fabric B triangles to (4) Fabric D triangles, (4) Fabric D triangles to (4) Fabric F triangles, and (4) Fabric E triangles to (4) Fabric G triangles. Press seams open.
- Follow Template A for half-square triangle block placement to create patchwork pattern on front of purse. Sew rows of half-square triangles together, then sew rows together. Take care to line up and pin all intersecting seams. Press seams open.
- To create the main body of purse, cut (1) 10"x 20" rectangle from Fabric A. Cut (1) 12"x 28" rectangle from Fabric C and (1) 12"x 28" rectangle from batting.
- With right sides together, sew top of patchwork front to 10" edge of 10"x 20" rectangle of Fabric A to create main body of purse.
- Layer 12"x 28" rectangle of Fabric C, batting, and main body. Quilt as desired. (Stich-in-ditch on patchwork, cross-hatch main body). Trim lower left and lower right corner of front flap with same radius of rounded corner as purse sides. See Template B.
- To create the sides of the purse, cut (2) pattern Template B from Fabric A, cut (2) pattern Template B from batting, cut (2) pattern Template B from Fabric C. Layer Fabric A, batting, and Fabric C. Quilt as desired (cross-hatch).
- With wrong sides together, pin sides of purse to main body. Sew sides to main body, easing around the rounded corners.
- For binding, cut 2 1/2" strips x width of fabric from Fabric B. Fold in half lengthwise and press. Cut (1) 18" length. Fold under 1/4" of each end. Sew raw edge of binding strip to raw edge of front and top of sides of purse. Fold binding to backside, covering raw edges and hand stitch in place.
- Cover exposed side seams and raw edge of patchwork front flap with binding strip in the same manner.
- To create strap, cut (2) 3" x width of fabric strips from Fabric A. Piece together strips to create a 70" length. Fold in half lengthwise and press. Fold in raw edges 1/4" along length on both sides, press.
- Cut 1" strips of batting, piece together to create a 70" length.
- Tuck batting strip under 1/4" raw edge turned under on strip of Fabric A, fold fabric over batting, lining up folded edges of Fabric A. Top stich in place along folded edges of both edges of strap.
- Cut (2) 5" lengths from strap piece. Fold over 1/2" of raw edge, loop through D-ring, and stitch in place. Repeat for the other 5" length. Fold over 1/2" of remaining raw edge, fold over 1", stitch to top of purse side. See Template B for placement. Repeat for the second side of purse.
- Fold over 1/2" of raw edge of remaining strap, loop through one of the D-rings, stitch in place. Feed loose end of strap through purse buckle, then feed it through the D-ring on opposite side of purse, then feed it around the cross bar of the purse buckle. Fold under 1/2" of raw edge and stitch in place to create an adjustable strap.
- Cut (2) 2" squares from Fabric A and (2) 1 1/2" squares from batting. Layer one fabric square over one batting square. Attach one side of magnetic snap in center of square, fabric side out. Repeat with second magnetic snap side. Fold excess fabric to the back. Hand stitch in place on purse front flap centered approximately 1" in from the bottom edge, and main body of purse, being sure snaps align properly when closed.
