Great Once I Figured it Out
These are great little coasters. A lot of the reviewers are saying they need some kind of batting to prevent condensation soaking through, but I haven't had a problem with mine. I made them with Keepsake quilting cotton, so nothing fancy. I also did a set with a layer of old terry-cloth dishtowel in the middle to give it a little insulation, and that seems fine and gives little insulation for hot drinks. The biggest problem I had was figuring out the 'turn piece' this way and that way from the directions. It needs diagrams or a video, I think. Super cute.

Why?
Cute but useless. Maybe if you used something besides batting inside and didn’t quilt it but otherwise, useless

So, the ONLY other reviewer is absolutely correct. The condensation would collect in these and defeat the entire purpose of having coasters. There is a material Joann sells to “waterproof” to a degree. I believe it’s sold as a lining for rain jackets? But, if you’re poking a million holes in them by quilting, I don’t know how effective these would be. I’m sure they look adorable in the lemon fabric. I made mine with silver and black, though, they’re a tad thick and seem to work better as heat mats or trivets.

Good idea. Poor directions.
A coaster needs several layers of interfacing or fusible batting inside to prevent the condensation from glasses from soaking through.
