SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Simplicity S8927 (View A)
- Large Roll of Paper
- 1.5yds Various Color Cotton Fabric Pieces
- 1/2yd Flannel Fabric
- 4 Buttons
- Basic Sewing Supplies
DIRECTIONS:
- Copy the Simplicity S8927 View A pattern, the front and the back, to paper, twice for each piece.
- Draw your pieced design over top of one of them, cut out the individual pieces, and then very important add 1/2" seam allowance to every side that needs to be sewn to another piece. Set aside.
- Cut out the second View A pattern, the front and the back, and use to cut out right and left front flannel pieces and a back flannel piece; and a right and left front lining piece and a back lining piece. Set aside.
- Use your Quilted Tank front and back pieces with their added 1/2" seam allowances to cut out your cotton fabrics. Sew pieces together, pressing the seams open with your iron after each pass.
- When left and right fronts and back are all pieced, place them over the top of the flannel pieces and pin generously in place. Sew cotton pieces to the flannel pieces across each seam, starting with the centermost seam and working outward. Finish by basting around the edges. Trim off any excess material.
- Begin following the Simplicity S8927 directions, starting with staystitching and sewing the darts.
JOANN HACKS:
- When sewing together curved pieces, use an iron to help relax the fibers as you pull and pin the curves together. Sew the curves slowly and continually make sure the fabric is not bunching. If it does end up bunching, however, unpick a section that is a bit larger than the sewn crease, iron lightly, stretch it back out and sew over again. When you're done sewing, clip triangles into the seam allowance.
