Rainbow Playmat

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

• RAINBOW PLAYMAT PATTERN
• 2/3yd Fabric each for arches (A, B, C, D)
• 1/2yd Fabric for arch (E)
• 1/3yd Fabric for arch (F)
• 2/3yd Fabric for back (G)
• 12oz bag Poly-fil fiberfill
• Basic sewing supplies


• MEASUREMENTS:
• 30"x 20"

DIRECTIONS:

1. Cut Fabric Pieces:
• Use pattern templates to cut arches and back on the fold.


2. Sew Arches Together:
• With right sides together, match the bottom of arch (A) to the top of arch (B), as shown in DIAGRAM 1.
• Pull the bottom curve of (A) to meet the top curve of (B) and pin or clip, as shown in DIAGRAM 2.
• Continue to pin or clip the entire bottom curve of (A) to the top curve of (B), as shown in DIAGRAM 3.
• Sew the curved edges together.
• Press the seams open with an iron.
• Repeat for arches C-F.


3. Attach the Back:
• With right sides together, match the front arches to the back fabric (G).
• Sew along the top arch; leave the bottom edge open.


4. Sew Over the Top Arch Seams:
• Fold the bottom edges of the front and back 1/2" to the inside of the playmat.
• Press with an iron.
• Sew along the curved seams of the front arches; leave the bottom open.


5. Finish the Playmat:
• Stuff each arch with Poly-fil.
• Close the open bottom edge by pinning in place and either hand sewing with a blind stitch or simple sewing across the edge with a sewing machine as shown in DIAGRAM 4.

JOANN HACKS:

• Use a dowel rod or end of a broom to push the stuffing into the top of the arch.
