SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- 2 L Plastic Bottle with Cap
- Awl or Push Pin
- Sharp Scissors
- Twine
- Sticks, Dowel Rods, or Pencils
- Paint Brush & Paint
- Glue
DIRECTIONS:
- Make holes in the bottle with either an awl or a push pin - two holes opposite each other near the bottom of the bottle and two holes opposite each other closer near the top. Use the scissors to make the holes just a little smaller than the stick or dowel rod or pencil you're using as a bird perch. Test out the hole size with your perch material, then set your perch material aside. About 1.75" above each perch, make another hole. Use the scissors to widen the hole to 1/4" diameter.
- If you have an awl you can use it to make two holes for the twine in the bottlecap; otherwise you can use the push pin and scissors to make and slightly widen two holes in the bottle neck.
- Glue on any additional recycled material to the bird feeder (could be things like plastic plant saucers, empty thread spools, beads, other container caps, plastic bowls, etc.) Allow glue to dry.
- Paint the bottle and let dry.
- Push in the perch materials. Add the twine to the top - place the twine on top of the hole and use the push pin to push the fibers through the hole. Knot the two ends of twine together and trim off the excess twine.
- Add birdseed, twist the cap on, hang, and enjoy.
JOANN HACKS:
- Once paint is dry, use a paint pen to hand draw design elements onto the birdfeeder.
