SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
DIRECTIONS:
JOANN HACKS:
- Two Clean Upcycled Metal Cans (different sizes which one can fit inside the other)
- 36" of 3mm Cotton Cording
- Satin Trim Cord or Yarn
- Craft Paint
- Paintbrushes
- 25mm Jingle Bells
- 13mm Jingle Bells
- Wood Beads
- Plastic Beads
- Plastic Charms
- Scissors
- Measuring Tape
- Hammer
- Nail
- Covered Workspace/Drop Cloth
DIRECTIONS:
- Use a hammer and a wide nail to puncture a hole through the bottom of each metal can, large enough to accommodate the 3mm cotton cord. Using craft paint, paint the cans and set the pieces aside to dry.
- Thread 24" of cotton cording through the holes in the painted cans. Position the cans to overlap one another and add a knot to the underside of both cans, starting with the larger, top can. For decoration, string larger beads on the top.
- String long lengths of satin cord with jingle bells, beads, and charms. Tie to the cotton cord knot on the inside of the painted can.
- Tie shorter lengths of satin cord containing additional jiggle bells and beads to decorate.
- At the top, loop the cotton cord and tie it tightly for hanging. Tie off the ends of each strand and trim excess cording.
JOANN HACKS:
- Try acrylic paint for more durability.
- Make your wind chime more durable for outdoor use—add a clear coat finish or gloss varnish to the painted surfaces.
- For kids crafting, have them string individual strands and have an adult tie them to wind chime.
