SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • A silicone mold of Alphabet letters
  • Color Pour resin hardener kit
  • Color Pour embellishments: gold glitter, gold leaf, white/golden crystals
  • Color Pour pigment colors: golden brown, yellow, gold metallic, soft dark red, purple
  • Wooden popsicle sticks
  • Toothpicks
  • Heat gun
  • Jewelry findings: large jump rings, small jump rings, keychains, eye-loop head pins, copper-looking beads with patterns on them, fall-colored small accent beads
  • Small wire cutters
  • Wire curling pliers
  • Small needle nose pliers
  • Dremel & small drill bit
  • X-Acto® knife

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Mix the resin according to the directions on the box. Let resin sit for 5 minutes before pouring into the mold. Fill the letters that you want to create 3/4 full of resin. You should only make 4-8 letters at a time. Add drops of the color pigment to the resin. You will only need 1-2 drops of pigment. Mix the color and resin with a toothpick. Add as many embellishments as you want. Go sparingly at first because you can always add more. Use the heat gun to wave out any bubbles. Let it cure overnight.
  2. Mix another small batch of resin and pour a top layer over the letters to bring out the sparkle and make the letters bulge in the form just a bit. Let them dry completely. You can assemble the copper beads and small beads onto the keychains while you are waiting for the letters to cure.
  3. Once they are completely hardened, (two days) you can push them out of the form. Using an X-Acto knife, shave off any edges that extend past the letter form to give it a clean look. With the Dremel and a small bit, make a hole in the letter on the front in the upper left corner. You are going to open a large jump ring and slide the keychain onto the jump ring and the letter at the same time. Close the large jump ring into the letter by grabbing one end of the ring and bending it into the hole on the resin letter while the keychain and beads are already on the keychain.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Check the letters for bubbles while they are drying about 30 minutes after you completed filling the letters. You might need a straight pin to pull bubbles off of the side of the letters in the molds.
