SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1 Dozen hard boiled eggs
  • Cricut Machine
  • Cutting Mat
  • Removeable Vinyl
  • Weeder
  • Solid Core Cardstock
  • Glue Stick
  • Natural Dye Color Agents (such as beets, red/purple cabbage, berries, onion skins, turmeric, paprika, tea, and coffee)
  • White Vinegar

  • EGG DECALS

    1. Hard boiled the eggs first and let them cool.
    2. Open design space. Insert desired shapes and images onto the canvas.
    3. Scale art to around 1" or smaller.
    4. Cut shapes onto removeable vinyl.
    5. Weed excess vinyl from the page.
    6. Place the vinyl decals onto clean, room temperature hard boiled eggs. Decals can be transferred by hand or by using the weeding tool.
    7. Press decals firmly to ensure a tight seal on the eggs.
    8. Place you prepared eggs in the solution color bath of your choice.
    9. Once eggs have reached desired color, remove them from the dye bath and let them air dry.
    10. Remove the stickers once eggs are completely dry.

    DIE-CUT HOLDERS

    1. Open Design Space. Upload die-cut holder .svgs and add to the canvas.
    2. No scaling is required for most eggs.
    3. Cut holders from card stock.
    4. Wrap the holder around the egg and glue into place. Cut off excess paper if needed.
    5. Egg dyes from wet ingredients such as beets, red or purple cabbage, berries and onion skins (white and red).
    6. Cut food item into small pieces. Place in a pot and cover with 1-2" of water. Add 1 Tbsp of white vinegar for every cup of water.
    7. Heat water to a boil and then lower to a simmer for 30 minutes to 1 hour. Strain solid ingredients.
    8. Allow water to cool to room temperature. Soak eggs for several hours or overnight.
    9. Egg Dyes from Dried Ingredients such as Turmeric, Paprika, and Black Tea.
    10. Boil water.
    11. Add 1 Tbsp of dried ingredients (1 tea bag) and 1 Tbsp of white vinegar for every cup of water.
    12. Stir to dissolve dried ingredients. Seep tea until water has cooled to room temperature.
    13. Allow water to cool to room temperature. Soak eggs for several hours or overnight.
    14. To use coffee, brew a strong pot of coffee. Add 1 Tbsp of white vinegar per cup of coffee. Allow coffee to cool to room temperature. Soak eggs for several hours or overnight.

    JOANN HACKS:

    • Try soaking eggs in multiple dye baths for layered colors. Experiment with white and brown eggs to see what colors you can create.
