DIRECTIONS:
  1. To construct new cushion top for existing frame: Measure diameter and circumference of original seat cushion. Purchase 2" high density foam and 1/2" plywood to match diameter measurement. Cut plywood to match cushion. Sand edges. Spray adhesive to one surface of each, plywood and foam. Press together. Cut batting to cover top, sides and 2" onto plywood back of cushion. Spray adhesive on one side of batting and foam top and sides of cushion. Center cushion plywood side up on batting. Wrap batting around cushion. Adjust sides and edges to lay flat.
  2. Fabric cover. 1/2" SA. Top: 1 @ diameter + 1", side: 1 @ circumference + 1" x 4 1/4" (2" foam, 1/2" ply, 1/2" SA to top and 1" wrap to plywood back). Adjust 4 1/2" measurement if 1" wrap to back leaves staple attachments in poor placement for replacing screws for base of stool.
  3. Sew short ends of side RST 1/2" SA. Find and mark quarters on side and top. RST top and side matching marks. Sew 1/2" SA. Trim seam to 1/4" and zig zag edge. Turn RSO. Place over top cushion. Wrap fabric to plywood back. Staple fabric to back of plywood keeping the measurement from top of foam to back edge of plywood consistent, approximately 2 1/2". Staple opposite sides first. Attach a dust cover if desired. Cut a circle the same size as the plywood. Fold under edges, press. Staple over raw edges of fabric. Make sure that the staples will not align with the leg frame screw holes. Reattach cushion to base. Mark holes for screws with an awl. Pre-drill holes. Set screws through base into plywood.
  4. To make slipcovers for existing cushions/stools: Measure diameter of top. Add 1" to diameter. Use a large compass or string tied to pencil to draw and cutout circle pattern from paper. Set aside. Measure circumference of stool. This should correlate with circumference of top diameter. Add 1", this is the L of side. Measure from the seam of the top to the bottom edge of the area to be covered on the stool. Add 2 1/2" (1/2" SA at top, 1 1/2" hem, 1/2" past bottom edge measurement), this is the H of side. Cut side and top. On WS of side mark 1" from one long edge. Fold, press and stitch fold. Mark a line 2" from folded edge. RST side sew short ends together with 1/2" SA. Press seam open and topstitch. Fold and press folded edge of side to marked line. Press and stitch close to edge. Fold and mark quarters of side on raw edge. Fold and mark quarters on top circle. RST attach top to sides at marks. Sew 1/2" SA on circle top side. Trim seam to 1/4" and zig zag to flatten seam and eliminate fray. Turn RSO and cover stool.
