Reusable Snack Bags

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Black & white striped oilcloth fabric
  • Gold & white polka dot oilcloth fabric
  • StandardGrip Machine Mat - 12"x 24"
  • Sewable fabric stabilizer
  • Iron
  • Press cloth or clean cotton cloth
  • White ribbon
  • Gold glitter ribbon
  • Sewing machine
  • Strong adhesive hook & loop fastener

DIRECTIONS:

    SIZE: 5 1/2"x 7 1/2"

    PREPARATION:
    1. Cut fabric to fit the 12"x 24" mat.
    2. You will need 2 pieces for each style of fabric.
    3. Following the manufacturer's instructions, apply stabilizer to the back of one piece of black and white oilcloth and the back of one piece of gold polka dot oilcloth.
    4. Be sure to use a press cloth or clean cotton cloth to avoid melting the oilcloth.
    5. Remove paper backing.
    6. Stack the two black and white pieces of fabric, wrong sides together, sandwiching the fabric stabilizer between them.
    7. Use the iron and press cloth or clean cotton cloth to fuse the pieces back to back.
    8. This will create one double-sided piece of oilcloth.
    9. Repeat the process for the gold and white fabric.

    CUT:
    1. Follow the instructions in Design Space to cut images from the prepared oilcloth.

    ASSEMBLE:
    1. For each snack bag: Cut a 12" length of ribbon.
    2. Center one end of ribbon on the notched end of the oilcloth.
    3. Use sewing machine to stitch in place.
    4. Fold short straight edge of bag up 6".
    5. Use sewing machine to sew along each edge to create pocket.
    6. Continue to stitch around flap portion of bag.
    7. Fold notched edged of bag toward pocket.
    8. Wrap ribbon around bag.
    9. Create fastener by adhering strong grip hook and loop fastener to ends of ribbon.
