Reverse Dye Curtains

Beginner Weekend Project

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Scissors or rotary cutter & cutting board
  • Yardstick
  • Quilter's rule
  • Marking pen or tailor's chalk
  • Iron
  • Washing machine & dryer
  • Tulip® Reverse Tie Dye Kit
  • Permanent fabric tape, 1" for top and bottom hems, 5/8" for side hems
  • Cotton fabric, width at least 2" x W of window plus 2" per panel, length from ring clips to desired length plus 5 1/4"
  • Curtain Clip Rings
  • Iron/ironing surface

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut fabric to height and width of curtain panels. Overcut length and width as shrinkage may occur. Finish cut Width: W of window plus 2" for side seams. Finished cut length: desired length plus 5 1/4". Wash fabric to remove finishes. Reverse Tie-Dye as per manufacturer's directions. Wash and dry fabric. Iron.
  2. Lay one panel on a hard flat surface wrong side up. Square fabric to finish cut dimensions. Fold side 1/4", press. Fold again 5/8", press. Repeat on opposite side. Fold top down 1/2", press. Fold again 1 1/4", press. Fold bottom up 1/2", press. Fold again 3", press.
  3. Open one side fold leaving 1/4" folded. Press adhesive side of 5/8" fabric tape to fabric lining up outer edge with folded edge of fabric. Press well. Fold fabric at 5/8" fold and press well. Repeat for opposite side. Open top fold leaving 1/2" folded. Press adhesive side of 1" fabric tape to fabric lining up outer edge with folded edge of fabric. Press well. Fold fabric at 1 1/4" fold and press well. Open bottom fold leaving 1/2" folded. Press adhesive side of 1" fabric tape to fabric lining up outer edge with folded edge of fabric. Press well. Fold fabric at 3" fold and press well.
  4. Use curtain clip rings to attach panels to curtain rod.
