SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Coats Dual Duty XP All-purpose thread
- 1/3 yd woven plaid fabric, 60" wide
- 1/3 yd woven plaid fabric for reverse side, 60" wide
Finished size: 10" x 58". For a longer scarf, purchase the yardage by the desired length.
DIRECTIONS:
- Fabric Note: It's important that the scarf fabrics have the design woven in to make a good-looking fringed area. If you choose a print fabric, the fringe may look less colorful as the underside of a print fabric is often lighter than the fabric face.
- From each woven plaid, cut 1 rectangle, 10 1/2" x width of fabric. Seam allowances are 1/4".
- With right sides together and raw edges matching, stitch together the two long edges of the scarf, starting and stopping 1 1/2"-2" before each end. Backstitch at the beginning and ends of the seam.
- Turn the scarf right side out and press the edges. Topstitch the edges if desired, stopping at the end of the seam stitching.
- Fringing: Sew the two scarf layers together 1 1/2"-2" (3.81cm-5.08cm) from each end, following a thread line in the fabric.
- Using a pin or stiletto, pull out the threads below the stitching on each end to make the fringe. Fringe each layer separately for best results.
- Fringe all the way up to the stitching line on each scarf end. Press the fringe to straighten it.
