Intermediate Weekend Project

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • An assortment of ribbon in various colors and widths
  • 23" round embroidery hoop
  • 1/2 yard netting
  • Needle with a large eye
  • Thread
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Secure the netting inside of the embroidery hoop.
  2. Trace several circles around the outer edge of the hoop.
  3. Create rosettes in the circles. First with a thinner (1/8") ribbon, stitch spokes working from the outer edge of the circle to the middle. Make sure there are 7 spokes. Hot glue the ends to the back of the netting. With the thicker (3/8") ribbon, hot glue one end near the center of the spokes. Begin weaving the ribbon around the spokes until the whole rose is filled. Hot glue the end of the ribbon secure, tucking it under the woven portion to hide the end.
  4. Create ruffled flowers. Cut a length of 3/8" ribbon at least 12" long. With a needle and thread, make a running stitch up one side of the ribbon and pull to make the ribbon ruffle. Gather the ribbon together in a tight bunch and hot glue it to the netting.
  5. Create daisy flowers. Wrap the white ribbon around two fingers 6 times. Slide the loops off and use some thread to knot them together at one end of the loops. Hot glue these loops to the netting with the knotted end up. Cut a 6" length of yellow ribbon. Roll this ribbon into a circle shape and hot glue it to secure. Hot glue the yellow piece to the top of the white piece, covering the knot. Cut a length of 1/8" green ribbon. Thread it through the top of the flower, from behind and hot glue the end. Then thread it down the netting to create the stem. Hot glue to secure it.
  6. Create some small leaves. Cut pieces of green 3/8" ribbon 3" long. Make a small loop and hot glue the ends together. Hot glue these under the ruffled flowers.
  7. Create some larger leaves. Cut lengths of 3/8" green ribbon one 4", two 3" and two 2". Fold each over and hot glue then down. Then layer the pieces, 4" in the middle, two 3" on either side, and 2" on either side of those. Hot glue them to secure. Hot glue these under the ribbon roses.
  8. Daisy stitch small flowers around randomly with the 1/8" ribbon, hot gluing the ends to the back of the piece to hide them.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very Pretty I have no idea what the instructions are saying and I’m pretty crafty. Glue and sew spokes??

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Questions How will 18 inches of netting fill a 23 inch hoop? Need more than half yard. Looks like flowers are suspended in hoop but netting will show. A stiff tulle would better. Directions confusing ie. Trace circles outside the hoop...no, near outer edge.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Looks beautiful This looks beautiful and I realize it’s an intermediate project - but Gosh! Can directions show something? I’ve crafted for years & sell many of my crafts but these directions, while detailed are pretty much useless without some sort of pictures or diagrams.
