- (1) 1" Parachute Buckle
- (2) 1" Strap Adjusters
- 1/4yd Fabric (A)
- 1/4yd Contrasting Fabric (B)
- (12") 1/2" Wide Ribbon
- Poly-fil®
- Scissors
- Basic Sewing Supplies
- Sewing Machine
DIRECTIONS:
- Cut (2) 7" squares from fabric A and (2) 7"x 4" rectangles from fabric B.
- With right sides together, sew both 7" sides of rectangle B. Turn and press.
- Lay rectangle B on top of right side of one square A, matching center points of raw edges of rectangle B to center points of opposite sides on square A. Place second square A on top with right sides together. Sew along all four sides of square A, leaving a 3" opening for turning along one of the sides that does not contain rectangle B. Turn and press.
- Fill lightly with Poly-fil. Hand stitch opening closed.
- Take 12" piece of ribbon and feed it under rectangle B at center. Tie a bow.
- Cut (2) 12" lengths of webbing, (1) 22" length of webbing, and (1) 28" length of webbing. Take one end of the 22" length and feed 1 1/2" through D-ring. Sew D-ring in place. Feed opposite end of 22" webbing through one of the strap adjusters, then through the already attached D-ring, then feed back through the strap adjuster. Sew end of webbing back on itself to secure strap adjuster. This becomes the adjustable neck strap for the harness. Increase or decrease length of this piece of webbing for a larger or smaller dog (add 6" to neck measurement).
- Attach one 12" length of webbing to the neck strap by folding 2" of one end over the webbing for the neck. Stitch only the overlapping piece of the 12" webbing back on itself to secure. It should move freely across the neck strap. This becomes the back strap.
- Attach the second 12" length to the D-ring on the neck strap by feeding 2" of one end through the D-ring, folding it back on itself, and stitching in place. This becomes the chest strap.
- Attach the back strap to the 28" length of webbing by placing the raw edge of the back strap through a D-ring, then folding 2" over the 28" length of webbing. Sew in place only where the back strap folds back on itself so that the 28" length slides freely. This D-ring becomes the leash attachment. Attach chest strap in the same way, but without adding a D-ring.
- Feed one end of the 28" length through a strap adjuster, then through one end of the parachute buckle, and back through the slide adjuster. Fold the end back on itself and sew in place to the slide adjuster. Feed the remaining end of the 28" length through the opposite end of the parachute buckle and fold back on itself 2" and sew in place. This becomes the adjustable waist. Increase or decrease length of this piece of webbing for a larger or smaller dog (add 6" to waist measurement).
- Hand stitch pillow to the back strap.
