SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Sheet of foam core 48"x 60" OR two smaller sheets taped together
- 2 rolls of dark blue/violet Cricut® adhesive vinyl
- Scissors
- Roll of yellow bulletin paper
- Roll of duct tape, any color
- X-Acto® knife
- Cutting surface
- Metal straight edge ruler
- Can of Super 77 spray adhesive
- Cricut machine
- 3 sheets of white cardstock
- Bottle of Tombow glue: with the green cap
DIRECTIONS:
- Make sure the sheet of foam core is the size you want. To make a bigger sheet, cut one of your two sheets to be about 12" wide and the length of the foam core sheet. Lay the new cut sheet next to your bigger sheet and duct tape them together from the top to the bottom going lengthwise.
- Using your spray glue, completely cover one side of the foam core. Make sure you spray on a thick coat. Let it dry for about 5 minutes and then lay the paper on top. When you lay the paper down, start from one side and one end of the width and not length of the board. Roll it onto the foam core, smoothing it out as you go and apply some pressure to make the paper bond well. Once the paper is completely on the foam core, rub the surface with your hands to make sure the paper is bonding to the foam core. Trim off any excess paper using your X-Acto knife.
- From your blue/violet vinyl, cut out a band of vinyl about 5" tall and the length of the roll. Peel off the backer paper and attach this band of vinyl at the bottom of the yellow board. You will need to cut out an additional piece to finish the width across the bottom of the board. Save your leftover vinyl to use at the top of the board for the thought bubble.
- For the top of the board, unroll your new roll of vinyl on the yellow board and decide where you will cut into the 12" wide vinyl to help you create the thought bubble. You will see where you need the leftover vinyl from the bottom to help make the thought bubble.
- Remove backer paper and apply the bigger top piece. Then add the additional pieces of vinyl to the bubble to make the point of the bubble.
- Using your Cricut, create the letters and cut out of the cardstock. These letters are 7" in height. You might have to adjust depending on what font you choose. Impact or Arial are good choices.
- Once you have cut out the letter, do a dry run to figure out the placement of the letters. Glue them in place using the Tombow glue. Use the glue sparingly.
Craft Hack Tips and Tricks:
- When applying the paper to the glue sprayed board, take your time to line to up evenly at the bottom before unrolling it onto the board.
- When rubbing the paper to the foam core, rub from the center of the board towards the outside edges.
