Round Tie Dye Monster Tote Bags

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • White canvas fabric
  • Sticky back felt, black
  • Sticky back felt, white
  • Strapping 26" long
  • Pattern templates
  • Sewing machine
  • Thread
  • Scissors
  • Iron
  • Tie dye

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Tote Pattern:
  2. Print and cut out 4 of the Tote Pattern pieces and tape them together to make one large circle.
  3. Use the circle template to cut two circles from the white canvas fabric.
  4. Cut the strapping 26" long.
  5. Place the circles, right sides together. Place the strapping inside the two circles where marked on the pattern.
  6. Sew along the edge with 1/2" seams. Be sure to leave the marked section unsewn.
  7. Turn the tote right side out.
  8. Fold the top, unsewn section, into the tote and iron flat.
  9. Topstitch around the open edge on both sides of the tote. Topstitch around the edge of the rest of the tote.

  10. Wet the finished tote bag. Scrunch and crumple the tote.
  11. Sprinkle the wet tote bag with desired colors of tie dye. Work small sections at a time, and squeeze with a gloved hand, then move onto another color and section.
  12. When desired colors are achieved, allow the tote to dry.
  13. Once dry, iron flat.
  14. Use the pattern templates to cut out the face shapes with the white and black sticky back felt.
  15. Position face on the tote bag.
