SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Sweatshirt
- 1 pkg 3/4" elastic
- Iron-on applique
- Tailor's chalk
- Basic sewing supplies
DIRECTIONS:
- Try on the sweatshirt, take measurements and mark for the elastic placement.
- To help the sleeve lay flat while sewing, take a seam ripper and undo the underarm seam stopping at the cuff. Do not remove the cuff from the sweatshirt sleeve.
- Turn the sweatshirt to the wrong side, mark the placement for the elastic with tailor's chalk.
- Cut the elastic 3-4" shorter than the sleeve measurement, this will cause the ruching effect.
- Place the elastic on the sleeve, matching at markings. Secure the elastic at cap of the sleeve by stitching horizontally across the top of the elastic.
- Stitch both sides of the he elastic vertically at 1/4" from the edge, from the cap to the wrist of the sleeve.
- Right sides together, stitch the underarm seam.
Craft Hack Tips and Tricks:
- Pulling the elastic while stitching gives a more intense ruching effect.
- Instead of using tailor's chalk to mark the placement of elastic, you can fold the sleeve and press creases to act as your guide.
