DIRECTIONS:

To print the template and diagram, click on the "GET PATTERNS" tab above.
  1. Cut two of Template A from the printed cotton, and one of Template A from the Insul-Bright insulated lining.
  2. Cut two 2 1/2"x 16" strips from the printed cotton.
  3. Connect the two strips of fabric together like quilt binding by lining up the ends of both strips of fabric, right sides together, and rotating one by 90 degrees.
  4. Sew a diagonal seam.
  5. See Diagram 1.
  6. Trim the excess fabric leaving a 1/4" seam allowance.
  7. Press seam open.
  8. Repeat with the opposite ends of the strips to create a continuous circle of fabric.
  9. Fold in half, matching the raw edges and press.
  10. Sew a gather stitch 1/4" in from the raw edges all the way around, but do not overlap the starting point.
  11. Set aside.
  12. Baste one printed cotton circle (Template A) to the Insul-Bright circle.
  13. Use plenty of pins to hold the pieces together and prevent either from shifting.
  14. Be sure to baste the circle as precisely as possible.
  15. This will help maintain a perfect circle in the completed coaster.
  16. Press flat.
  17. Gather the ruffle to fit the circumference of the circle, making sure ruffles are evenly spaced.
  18. Pin the ruffle to the cotton side of circle, matching the raw edges and using plenty of pins.
  19. Baste the ruffle to the circle with ruffle side down.
  20. Follow the first line of basting stitches that hold the cotton to the Insul-Bright.
  21. Pin the remaining cotton circle to the ruffle side of the coaster, right sides together.
  22. Sew around the circle along the previous stitch lines, leaving a small opening to turn right side out.
  23. Turn right side out.
  24. Gently press, being careful not to crush the ruffles or misshape the circle.
  25. Hand stitch the opening closed.
  26. Top stitch 1/4" in from the ruffle seam all around the circle.
  27. Pull tail threads to back and knot.
