- 100% Cotton Fabric for Apron View A
- 100% Coordinating Cotton Fabric for Pocket and Ruffle
- 2 pkgs Double Wide Coordinating Bias Tape (or use fabric as described in pattern)
- Basic Sewing Supplies
DIRECTIONS:
- Complete Simplicity pattern #1936 View A through step 8.
- Cut 2 rectangles of coordinating fabric 5" wide x 20" long for ruffle.
- Finish long edge and two short edges by folding under 1/4" twice and sewing to finish the edge.
- Measure 2" from unfinished edge on one short end and make a mark.
- Using a ruler, draw a line from the unfinished corner to the mark on the short edge to create a tapered piece for the ruffle.
- Sew a basting stitch along the unfinished side to gather for the ruffle.
- Make a mark 5" up from the top bias tape on the outer edge of the apron and 2" down from the lower bias tape to place ruffle.
- Gather ruffle by pulling basting stitch to fit within the markings.
- With wrong sides together, pin to outer edge of apron and sew with 1/4" seam.
- Pin and sew bias tape around entire apron enclosing the raw edge of the ruffle.
- Add 11" to end for ties of apron (see pattern instructions).
- Press ruffle to lay flat and pin bias tape along ruffle and sew again along the same stitching line so that the ruffle with lay flat.
