CUSHIONS
SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
  • Package of 2"x 22"x 22" piece of foam - 2 pieces for each cushion
  • Scissors
  • Gray velvet fabric
  • 1/4" piping cord
  • Straight pins
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Thread
  • Sewing machine

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Glue the two pieces of foam together.
  2. Using your scissors, cut out the desired square or rectangle shape for your bench cushions. Lay the cushion onto the fabric with right sides of fabric together and cut out squares/rectangles of fabric to be about 1" bigger than the foam shapes.
  3. For the piping, cut out 1" strips of the velvet fabric 2 inches longer than the perimeter of the cushion. You may need to sew strips of fabric together to get that length. You will need to do this twice for two fabric covered cords.
  4. Fold the strip of fabric around the piping cord at the beginning of the cord.
  5. With your zipper/piping sewing machine foot, sew right against the fabric covered piping cord folding the fabric around the cord as you sew. You will end up with 2 long fabric covered cords.
  6. Lay the foam cushion on a flat surface. Center the fabric piece on top of the foam cushion. Pin the fabric covered piping to the fabric, close to the foam cushion, with the raw seam going towards the ceiling.
  7. Pin a piece of fabric, the width of the cushion plus 1" for seam allowance, to the top piece of fabric with the right side facing into the cushion. Piping should already be sewn to the top piece.
  8. Sew the side seam to the top piece of fabric with the piping on it.
  9. Flip the cushion over with the fabric and add the second piece of fabric and piping as you did the first piece.
  10. Do not sew completely around the cushion. Leave an 8" opening on the backside to pull the cushion out and invert the finished cover right side out.
  11. Insert the cushion into the newly made cover. Fold over the open side seam and hand stitch it closed.
  12. Repeat these steps to make each additional cushion.

TABLE RUNNER

  • Straight pins
  • Scissors

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Cut the fabric to be the length desired plus 1" for seam allowance

  3. Pin and press after every few inches folded under.
  4. Using a sewing machine, stitch a 3 length stitch 1/4" away from the folded under edge.
  5. At corners, leave needle in down position using the hand wheel, lift presser foot and pivot. Put presser foot back down once fabric is in place & sew the next side of runner.
  6. Do this for all 4 sides.
  7. Backstitch once finished.

JOANN Hacks:
  • Clip fabric from seam allowance in corners to reduce bulk.
  • Press down on seams with a pressing cloth to give a flat finished look.

LAMPSHADES
SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
  • Sheer piece of fabric 1" taller than your lampshade and 1/2" plus the perimeter of the lampshade
  • High-temp glue gun & glue sticks
  • Spray adhesive
  • Scissors
  • Package of bias tape

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Create fabric pattern piece by wrapping the fabric around the shade right-side out and marking where to cut.
  2. Remove fabric from shade. Add 1" seam allowance on all sides. Cut out pattern.
  3. Spray the outside of the shade with adhesive in a well ventilated area.
  4. Place the fabric onto the shade, making sure to smooth out ripples.
  5. Cut off excess fabric from top and bottom, still leaving 1/4" seam allowance.

  7. Cover the top and bottom edges with bias tape using hot glue to adhere to edges of shade for a clean finish.
